Casey’s chief merchant calls the chain the fifth-largest U.S. pizza business
Tom Brennan put prepared food, not the pump, in that sentence. The doors still sell fuel.
Aug. 29, 2026 — Tom Brennan, Casey’s chief merchandising officer, told Fortune the chain is the fifth-largest pizza business in the United States, measured by prepared food and dispensed beverage, and the third-largest convenience store. He also called it the fourth-largest liquor-license holder. Bank of America Research had ranked the pizza business the same way.
Brennan’s other sentence is the one a fuel desk should keep. He said his old 7-Eleven stores in the Mid-Atlantic led the company’s U.S. food sales not because they were different boxes, but “because Wawa and Sheetz had legitimized eating at a gas station.” The trip is still the lot. The pizza is what the customer adds after the gallon.
Casey’s is closing in on 3,000 locations, with nearly half in towns of 5,000 or fewer, Fortune reported. That is consistent with the company’s own small-town store base. A pizza rank without the fuel mix is a restaurant story. Casey’s is not a restaurant. All but a handful of its doors sell fuel, which is why the food rank belongs on this desk at all.
