Editorial standards
Inside Snack is a newsroom. These are the rules the desk actually runs.
Sourcing
A staff story is bylined on this site. Filings, agency series, and company releases are rewritten into a desk file that names the document and the date. Government series (EIA, FDA, FSIS, SEC, USDA FNS) are cited to the issuing agency. We do not reprint another outlet’s article.
Attribution
Press releases are labeled Press release. Filings, recalls, and data series are labeled as primary sources. When another outlet first reported a development, we publish our own hosted file and name that outlet in the copy. We do not send the reader to another news site’s article, and we do not display another publisher’s photographs.
Advertising and sponsored content
Inside Snack does not sell ads. Editorial staff do not sell ads. There is no sponsored-content program. If that policy ever changes, advertising and sponsored material will be labeled as such on the page.
Conflicts of interest
Staff do not report on companies in which they hold a material financial interest. Gifts or travel that could reasonably be seen to influence coverage are disclosed to the editor and, when they bear on a story, to the reader.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected on the story with a dated note and entered in the public corrections log. We do not silently rewrite a published staff file.
The desk
This newsroom publishes year-round. A topic page is not a credential and not a promise of event access. Stories appear when they are filed.
