U.S. regular $4.085 and diesel $5.652 in the week ended Aug. 24
The Monday print before the Aug. 31 dip. Regular was a cent and a half higher than the following week.
Aug. 31, 2026 — The Energy Information Administration’s weekly retail survey for the week ended Aug. 24 put U.S. regular gasoline at $4.085 a gallon. Midgrade was $4.680. Premium was $5.060. On-highway diesel was $5.652.
These are survey averages, not a rack and not a single banner’s posted price. The following week’s print, which this desk filed separately, took regular to $4.071 and diesel to $5.599. The move that mattered for a travel-center account was diesel, down more than a nickel week to week, while regular eased by a little more than a cent.
A chain that prices the lot off the national regular headline still misses the PADD. The national pair is the board. The district move is the story when it diverges. This week it had not yet.
